Restorative Dentistry

Restorative Dentistry Boston MA

Restorative dentistry allows a patient to correct worn, decayed, damaged, or missing teeth. Your smile may be affected due to injury, decay, periodontal disease, or tooth loss. Restorative dentistry includes dental crowns, inlays, onlays, fillings, veneers, implants, bridges, and dentures. Preventative dentistry can avoid restorative procedures. For example, dental exams are important to maintain because they can detect issues early on.

Types of Restorations

There are two types of dental restorations to consider.

Direct Restoration

Dental fillings are common for direct dental restorations. This involves filling a cavity with composite-resin, amalgam, gold, or porcelain material. Composite-resin and amalgam are the most popular due to affordability yet are very effective.

Indirect Restoration

Dental crowns, inlays, and onlays are indirect restoration procedures. Crowns are tooth-like caps that cover the entire exposed tooth. Inlays are placed within the cusps of the tooth and onlays cover one or more cusps. These restorations are also available in composite-resin, amalgam, gold, and porcelain.

Teeth replacement is restorative dentistry that can be referred to as prosthodontics. If you are missing teeth, dental implants, bridges, or dentures should be considered. Missing teeth can cause more issues like tooth decay, periodontal disease, unnatural teeth shifting, and more tooth loss. Therefore, patients should seek teeth replacement as soon as possible. A dental exam and consultation will be required to determine your best teeth replacement option.

What Your Dental Team Is Doing to Keep You Healthy

Dear Mayani Dental family:

The health and well-being of our patients is our top priority, now and always. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we are closely following and adhering to precautions advised by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

We want to assure you that we are taking continuous steps to ensure that our office remains a safe place for every patient. It’s important for you to know that dentists are experts in infection control. For instance, we have been trained to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as flu, HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis and all viral diseases. The precautions we take every day will also help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

We follow precautions developed by the CDC to protect both health care personnel and patients. We sterilize all instruments at 375°F after each use and clean each dental operatory after each patient visit, using surface disinfectants that kill all known infectious diseases, including coronavirus. We utilize dedicated hand wash and one-time use disposable materials which help maintain a safe environment for our patients. Our staff is regularly trained in these procedures.

Working with our facility managers, we’ve ensured that our cleaning team has a sufficient stock of supplies. We have asked them to apply additional focus and time on cleaning door handles, faucets, and other items with high-traffic hand touches. Magazines in our waiting areas are also a risk from frequent contact, so they have been removed.

Seeing your dentist is a vital investment for your general health. Our office remains open to care for our patients following the above guidelines. If you have a fever, are exhibiting symptoms of respiratory illness, or have had recent contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you may be a risk to other patients or staff members. If you are experiencing fever (greater than 100.4), cough, or shortness of breath, please remain at home and contact your primary care physician immediately.

Remember, the best way to protect yourself and your community is with everyday preventative actions, like washing hands often and disinfecting surfaces regularly. These actions will help minimize and slow the spread of the coronavirus.
