When to Call an Emergency Dentist

It is important to know the signs and injuries that require the services of an emergency dentist.

  • Extreme tooth pain is a clear warning sign that requires a quick visit to an emergency dentist to determine the underlying cause of the pain and have it treated.
  • Blood flowing from the mouth is a cautious signal of a dental disaster that needs urgent medical care. The emergency dentist treats the gums by hardening them to stop blood loss and also treat the root cause of the bleeding.
  • A knocked-out tooth as a result of an accident requires emergency dental treatment as soon as possible to save the tooth from falling out entirely.
  • A cracked or a chipped tooth is another dental emergency that may require immediate attention especially if the nerves have been exposed resulting in pain.
  • A tooth that is not firmly attached even though it is not aching to avoid tooth loss.
  • Inflammation or an infection in the mouth, which shows a sign of swelling on the gum line and sometimes even on the rest of the face. It is essential to visit an emergency dentist immediately since it may be a life threating problem.
  • Open soft tissues such as defective nerves which can cause severe toothache and can’t afford delays.

What Your Dental Team Is Doing to Keep You Healthy

Dear Mayani Dental family:

The health and well-being of our patients is our top priority, now and always. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we are closely following and adhering to precautions advised by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

We want to assure you that we are taking continuous steps to ensure that our office remains a safe place for every patient. It’s important for you to know that dentists are experts in infection control. For instance, we have been trained to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as flu, HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis and all viral diseases. The precautions we take every day will also help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

We follow precautions developed by the CDC to protect both health care personnel and patients. We sterilize all instruments at 375°F after each use and clean each dental operatory after each patient visit, using surface disinfectants that kill all known infectious diseases, including coronavirus. We utilize dedicated hand wash and one-time use disposable materials which help maintain a safe environment for our patients. Our staff is regularly trained in these procedures.

Working with our facility managers, we’ve ensured that our cleaning team has a sufficient stock of supplies. We have asked them to apply additional focus and time on cleaning door handles, faucets, and other items with high-traffic hand touches. Magazines in our waiting areas are also a risk from frequent contact, so they have been removed.

Seeing your dentist is a vital investment for your general health. Our office remains open to care for our patients following the above guidelines. If you have a fever, are exhibiting symptoms of respiratory illness, or have had recent contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you may be a risk to other patients or staff members. If you are experiencing fever (greater than 100.4), cough, or shortness of breath, please remain at home and contact your primary care physician immediately.

Remember, the best way to protect yourself and your community is with everyday preventative actions, like washing hands often and disinfecting surfaces regularly. These actions will help minimize and slow the spread of the coronavirus.
