Benefits of a Routine Dental Exam

Regular dental visits have many benefits related to your dental and general health. A dentist has the expertise, experience, and tools that provides you with the required information and medical procedures to avert dental related issues.

The essence of regular dental visits is to help you keep a healthy, inviting and charming smile and improve your confidence when interacting with others.

The importance of routine dental check-up is summed up below:

General Dental Exam

Your dentist will do a dental exam, checking on your dental set, any deformities or emerging diseases and take the appropriate necessary action if any is required. The dentist may recommend a dental x-ray to further examine the teeth and gums. The general examination will also check the state of your tongue, oral cavity, and throat.

Dental Cleaning

After the dental exam, a dental cleaning is usually followed. Accumulated dental plaque or tartar is removed to prevent cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. Hence, this procedure is crucial as it helps your teeth retain their natural color and remain healthy.

General Advice

Your dentist will offer essential information and advice on maintaining proper dental hygiene, which includes brushing your teeth regularly, flossing, and rinsing with a mouthwash.

In other words, dental diseases can easily be averted when you have the necessary information and take the recommended action by your dentist. Maintaining a healthy and beautiful smile does not happen by chance. One of the important methods for proper dental hygiene is routine dental exams. There are many risks associated with poor dental hygiene. In fact, some dental related issues are irreversible, which affect your general health and quality of life.

What Your Dental Team Is Doing to Keep You Healthy

Dear Mayani Dental family:

The health and well-being of our patients is our top priority, now and always. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we are closely following and adhering to precautions advised by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

We want to assure you that we are taking continuous steps to ensure that our office remains a safe place for every patient. It’s important for you to know that dentists are experts in infection control. For instance, we have been trained to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as flu, HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis and all viral diseases. The precautions we take every day will also help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

We follow precautions developed by the CDC to protect both health care personnel and patients. We sterilize all instruments at 375°F after each use and clean each dental operatory after each patient visit, using surface disinfectants that kill all known infectious diseases, including coronavirus. We utilize dedicated hand wash and one-time use disposable materials which help maintain a safe environment for our patients. Our staff is regularly trained in these procedures.

Working with our facility managers, we’ve ensured that our cleaning team has a sufficient stock of supplies. We have asked them to apply additional focus and time on cleaning door handles, faucets, and other items with high-traffic hand touches. Magazines in our waiting areas are also a risk from frequent contact, so they have been removed.

Seeing your dentist is a vital investment for your general health. Our office remains open to care for our patients following the above guidelines. If you have a fever, are exhibiting symptoms of respiratory illness, or have had recent contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you may be a risk to other patients or staff members. If you are experiencing fever (greater than 100.4), cough, or shortness of breath, please remain at home and contact your primary care physician immediately.

Remember, the best way to protect yourself and your community is with everyday preventative actions, like washing hands often and disinfecting surfaces regularly. These actions will help minimize and slow the spread of the coronavirus.
